Q: Does my nj permit work in illinois?
I am going to illinois tonight and my parents are renting a car. they want me to drive for experience, its south illinois so nobody will be around. i am 16 and have my new jersey learner permit. is it valid in illinois?

A: If you get into an accident, you’re parents will get reamed by the car rental agency

What annes doesn’t get is that her parents cannot LEGALLY add her as a driver on the rental contract. If you get a ticket or into an accident, the police report will show you as the driver and then there will be a heluva lotta problems for your parents with the rental agency.

Yes, your permit is valid in Illinois but NOT valid when driving a rental

Q: Why did Obama vote “present” on everything before him in the Illinois Senate?
Did he think it meant he would get a PRESENT?

like a bribe, a new car, or a piece of jewelry for Ms Obama ?

I guess when you live your life on the entitlement train, you just keep hitting the button that says PRESENT by instinct ?

“In the Illinois state Senate, Senator Obama voted 130 times ‘present.’ That’s not yes, that’s not no”

— Hillary Rodham Clinton

A: IT took him 6 months to decide on a dog and then someone did it for him. He has waited for three months after asking the general to give him advice and when it was immediately given to him he is still UNDECIDED. (I know..tuesday…..when I hear it I will believe it…).

BUT the man has no problem making decisions in kissing butt and bowing.

Why does saying present and not taking a stand on anything surprise you now? He has so much going on and never finishes ANYTHING except watching the HBO special on himself!

Q: My cars brake light periodically comes on. It only happens in cold weather. 1996 Geo Prizm?
After I get to about 35 mph the brake light comes on. As I slow down it goes off and then when I pick up speed again it stays off until I come to a complete stop. Once I’m at a complete stop and try taking off again the light comes back on.
The car is from New Mexico and is now in Illinois where the weather is different..I don’t know if this would have anything to do with it.

Is there anyone that can help with this problem? Please help

A: Check the brake fluid. It may not be your problem, but it is definately the easiest thing to check. If it is low the light will come on. The resevoir should be on the drivers side of the car near the top of the engine compartment. It will be attached to the firewall.

Q: When you transfer your license plates in Illinois?
from old car to a new one:1. How long does it take? 2. Do you get a new registration card or any type of confirmation?? please help

A: you get a receipt if it is from a dealer and a hand written card from the sec of state facilty. you will get a new card in the mail in a few weeks. You must have the receipt with you in case you get stopped.

Q: I got a parking ticket for no registration. Is there anything I can do?
I was wondering if anyone’s had experience with this.

I recently moved from Illinois to New Jersey, but never got a registration renewal notice from Illinois (the car was unregistered for less than a month). I parked my car and later came back to find a cop standing next to it. He was writing me a ticket for an unregistered vehicle and having my car towed. I was parked legally; I have no idea why he ran my plates and didn’t even know police could do that without probable cause.

After finding out I had just graduated college and moved here, he decided that he was only going to have it towed, but at the last minute, decided that he had to give me the ticket anyways.

It’s $54, which is a lot of money that I’d rather not pay. It’s enough to make me want to go to traffic court if I have a decent chance of getting it reduced or thrown out (the court date is already on a day off at work.)

What approach should I take on this? Thanks in advance for your help.
To be clear, my car was towed to the impound after the cop promised me I could both:

A.) Have it towed home.
B.) Not get a ticket.

He reneged on both. Meanwhile, I had license plates on the vehicle, and the car was parked (I wasn’t pulled over for a moving violation.)

My issue is that the police officer didn’t have probable cause to run the plates. My car was parked legally. The reason the ticket was $54 and not $500 was that it was parked and not being driven.

The cop did me 0 favors. I was ticketed to the greatest extent I could be for a parking violation, and my car was towed to the impound.

A: A police officer can run any plates he wants to. How do you think they find stolen vehicles. Quit whining and pay the ticket. The fact that you say you never got a registration renewal is irrelevant. You should know when your plates expire and get them renewed beforehand. Renewal notices are nothing more than a courtesy, and claiming you didn’t get one is no excuse for not having current tags.

Q: current illinois window tint law?
what is the current law on car window tint in illinois? been seeing articles about new laws, did they go into affect?

A: Yes and you can see what they are here: http://www.tintlaws.com

Q: Where is a good place to buy a scooter in Illinois?
I want to buy a pretty good scooter new

How much am I looking to spend?

Are scooter prices as easy as cars to heckle down?

What are some good models that go 50 or more?

thanks

A: This one looks like it has (or had?) alot of them, always lined up in front, but I guess they’re doing a booming business. It’s in Chicago under a mile from me. I pass it almost daily, but have never set foot in it and don’t plan on buying one.:

Q: What do you think is the best way to go with the passenger rail diesel system?
Illinois and New Jersey have been going with the powerful locomotive pulling double decker cars. Its kind of slow.
In the UK they seem to like to use the DMU single level. A little more peppy.
I have seen a picture of double decker DMU in Germany.

A: As a matter of interest, most commuter systems in the UK are electrified (London, Manchester, Liverpool, Birmingham, Glasgow, for example). Also, the use of locomotive haulage on passenger trains of any description has, by and large, ceased (services into East Anglia being the main exception). It is fair to say that wherever multiple unit traction has replaced loco haulage there has been a step change in speeds, although there was loco haulage in the 100mph range in some areas. However, the main reason there are no double deck trains here is due to the small size of the UK loading gauge, the infrastructure – tunnels and bridges for example, not being large enough to accommodate the large double decked commuter trains that are seen, not only in Germany, but in other European countries like France and Holland. Many commuters would like to see double decking to obviate overcrowding on many services, but it just ain’t possible!

Q: Does my nj permit work in illinois?
I am going to illinois tonight and my parents are renting a car. they want me to drive for experience, its south illinois so nobody will be around. i am 16 and have my new jersey learner permit. is it valid in illinois?

A: Normally yes, if you were driving a privately owned vehicle. Since it is a rental car though, you may not be able to drive per the rental company’s policy. Your parents need to ask them. (We rented a U-Haul and it’s their policy that no one under the age of 18 can drive. Therefore my son, who is 17, wasn’t able to drive.)

Q: TEXAS TITLE & REGISTRATION QUESTION?
I leased a new car in Illinois, but live in Texas. I went to the tax office & got the two stickers for my window & a receipt, but I never got a title. I used to own a vehicle in Texas & a got a title in the mail. Do I not get one since I’m leasing? I’m so confused! Every time I call to ask a question I talk to an automated lady… so I’m not getting any help! I must have the title to ship my car to Hawaii & I’m leaving next weekend! HELP!!!
Okay for anyone who has this same question, I now have the answer!

http://www.txdot.gov/services/vehicle_titles_and_registration/regional_offices/default.htm

It’s as simple as finding your regional title and registration office! The lady I spoke to said that they already mailed it, I just never received it. You DO get a title, even if you are leasing. I’m going in person to the office tomorrow and I will get the title for my car =).
A little more info… I recently got married so I will also have to get my name changed on all info regarding my car. This is done at your local county tax office… just in case anyone needed to know!

A: “Star” is correct. The car is not used, your lender actually bought it from your Dealer and turned around and leased it to you….that is why if you buy the residual at the end, you will have to pay the sales tax on it….the “lender” paid the sales tax, not you….

Q: What legal recourse do I have regarding a hit and run accident in Illinois?
Someone crashed into my parked car (which I bought less than a month ago) with a pick-up truck a few nights ago outside my apartment in Illinois. I was asleep at the time, but apparently several people from my neighborhood saw it happen. The driver left his vehicle at the scene and fled on foot. The police came and filed a report, and the city impounded the truck.

I have the other driver’s license plate number and my insurance company said they are going to try to recoup my deductible and rental car expenses from the other driver.

This is all well and good but I’m really angry about the whole situation… It was practically a new car. Is there anything I can do to get more money from the driver to reimburse me for the loss of value to my car?

A: No. Once you let your insurance company get involved by paying a collision claim, you transfer your rights to sue that guy, over to them.

He can’t be sued twice over the same thing. He doesn’t have to pay twice. He (or his insurance) is only going to have to pay once – to you, if you cancel your claim with your insurance company with nothing paid, or to your insurance company, if you let them chase him down.

Q: Affect moving into a community property state would have on a judgement?
I live and hav eproperty in Illinois. I recently had to evict the tennent from the property and will be pursuing damages. The tennent has said that she intends to move to Wisconsin, build/buy a house and get married. I understand that Wisconsin is a community property state.

Here are the questions:

1. Should I sue now or after they are married in wisconsin?
2. If I get a judgement now, do I have to refile in Wi if the move across the line?
3. Can I seize what WILL be community property once they get married (i.e. new house, cars etc.)?
4. When does the debt actually occur (for legal puposes)? …when I reposess the property and assess the damage? …when I get the judgement?

I know these are a lot of questions. Much grats for any help.

A: It really doesn’t matter whether you sue her now or later, but for ease, I think sueing after she has moved and married might be better. But that might depend on how long until that happens.
The debt has already occured, but you will have to take her to small claims court (I assume this is a small claim).

Q: Has anyone ever traveled the City of New Orleans Amtrak train?
I am traveling to Illinois from Louisiana to visit some family I have up there. I just recently purchased my ticket. It takes 16 hours and I’ll be traveling coach. I am only 19, and this is the first time I will travel alone. Plus, I have only ever traveled by car. Never by plane or train.
Is the train nice?
Is the food expensive?
Should I be okay by myself?

I’d just like to know what it is like.

A: I live in Louisiana and I’ve ridden the Amtrak to Iowa many times. I was either 12 or 13 when I first traveled on one. I think it’s really fun! ^_^ The Economy Coach car is nice. You get to meet all kinds of people there, and they are usually quite nice. The staff also gives everyone in the Couch pillows at night. The Sight Seeing Lounge is lovely. There’s huge windows there so you can see everything! And there are T.V.s in there too. :) And when you go down the stairs, there’s a snack area where you can buy food, drinks, alcohol, and blankets. (The blankets are like souvenirs, lol). *Meals are included with your train ticket purchase. It’s the snacks in the lounge you have to pay for if you’d like them, but they are very cheap; some less than a dollar.

There’s plenty of bathrooms on the train. The Dinning Car is really pretty. It looks like a upper class restaurant to me. And the food tastes amazing! I love their cheese cake. :) And there’s lots of different food to choose from.

Now, about the first class & Sleeping train cars. I have also been on those! They have some much room and you have WAY more privacy in them than the normal coach cars. The room I was in had to beds. They were like chairs at first, but you pulled them out and they turned into beds. The other rooms are bigger than that. (I didn’t have that room, but I got to look at some). They are HUGE! By the rooms being so big, the hallway was very narrow…too narrow for my taste, lol.

You’ll be fine by yourself. If you have any questions, there’s a button you can push, and a staff member will be with you in no time. I think pretty really safe. And the train will be really shaky at times, don’t let that scare you- it’s totally normal.

As for the overall cost, I don’t think it’s TOO expensive…it just depends on what class you chose, what Amtrak company you chose, and other stuff like that. Probably about $300-$500 for a round trip.

Q: Why do northerners drive instead of fly?
I see them around my city (Ft Laud.) all the time. The come from the North. I see people from Michigan, Illinois, New York, Massachusetts, Wyoming, and even Canadians.

Personally, I’d rather fly than spend a day driving in the car. So my question is why do these northerners drive to Florida instead of drive?

A: Maybe they enjoy the road trip. But I think it probably has more to do with cost. Flying would be the optimal choice if you’re traveling solo but if your traveling in a group or as a family its more economical to pitch in for gas and cram into one car than to spend hundreds of dollars per ticket on airfare (not to mention having to check luggage.)

Q: I Pass question if you have a temp plate?
I live in Indiana and had to travel to Illinois and I had a temp plate at the time because I had a new car and I went thru the I pass lanes without an I pass. Can someone get in trouble still even though its not a real license plate?

A: they usually take a pic of your license plate for that type of violation that means if you only had a temp sticker in window you are good if you had an actual plate, temp or perm, you will probably get a ticket in the mail.
