Q: National Lampoons Vacation mistake!?
Not a question, just an observation. While watching this movie today, I noticed a mistake that hasn’t been documented on the “movie mistake” websites. It’s in the scene at the beginning of the movie when Clark/Rusty are at the car dealership picking up their new car. When they’re looking at the green wagon and they’re debating the fact it wasn’t the car they ordered–If you notice that in the upper right corner of the screen, you will see palm trees and it then pans to the left, and in the upper left corner you will see mountains in the background. May I ask where are palm trees/mountains located in the state of Illinois–where they’re supposed to be in that part of the movie??? HMM, I smell an error!
A: Good eye. It’ fun to find those things in movies.
Q: Employment and getting laid off…help?
know this is long.. but please read….
I live in Illinois (dont really know if that matters) but I got layed off on Feb 2, 2010. I was suposed to get my check for the weeks of January 17-January 31 2009 on Friday February 2, 2010.. I called on that friday and talked to the HR lady and was told our checks (that were suposed to be there) were not there and they would be there next week and that she would call me when they were there. I waited a week… and still no check… i found out today from a guy that was still working there, and he told me that they shut down and the bank took all the cars ( i worked at a luxury car dealership) and no one got paid… so everyone is out of the hard earned money they worked for…. im out about $700.00… so my question is… what steps do i take to get MY money and who should i contact. or if there is any other information that anyone knows about it would be appreciated. I thank you in advance!!! =)

Q: Please read inside..I need help.. My husband works for salary pay…and I need to know if this is illegal?
If I work on a salary based pay from a company…(read more)?
If I work for a Car dealership, on a salary based pay, and for instance Monday was Memorial Day, the company was not open for that holiday, can they make me come in on my day off which is Thursday, and if I dont come in and they deduct the my Salary for that day from my check?
I wasnt sure so I thought I would ask. Because they told me if I dont come in on my normal day off (thursdays) they would deduct pay from check, even though I am Salary paid. I live in the state of Illinois if that helps.
@ hmm he didnt have a choice. The place of work was closed for Memorial Day. If it had been opened he would have went to work.
My husband actually works more than 8hrs per day..he works
11hrs per day
A: I’m not an attorney, but the way it was explained to me is that they can screw around with your salary and hours as long as your pay doesn’t drop below minimum wage. Unless, of course, you have a contract with them.
Q: Illinois Permanent Plates?
I was curious how to tell without calling the dealership if I had purchased plates when I bought the car. There is a $78 charge on my paperwork saying License causing me to think that was my license plates right?
My mom and step dad agree with that but Ive yet to receive a call saying my plates are in nor have my plates come in the mail. My temp plate is about to expire and Im unsure of what to do.
Any and all help will be great
Thank you so much.
A: It’s for your plates and they will be sent to you. Sometimes it takes a while. You can get another temp tag from dealer if old one expires.
Q: Possibly looking to buy a “low flood vehicle”?
I looked at a car at a dealer today, and the price is very good compared to others of the same model. I talked to a salesman and he told me that the dealership in question deals in theft recoveries, and “low flood” cars. It’s a legitimate dealership, or so it seems, not some back alley mechanic trying to sell me a junk car. He had Porsche’s and Audi’s on the showroom floor – all theft recovery or “low flood” cars. I am in Connecticut and he said the car is from Illinois.
The car looks great inside and out, no odor, runs and drives fine, and even has a 100 day/1,000 mile FULL 100% warranty. He said that they extensively detailed it when they got it, and cleaned every electrical connection.
Now, what are some of the pros and cons of buying a car with this title? Besides the lower price, will I pay less or more for insurance?
A: You probably won’t pay more for insurance, the problem is if you ever have a claim on the insurance. The insurance company may try to reduce the value if it is ever totaled, and not want to pay as much. If the car was reconditioned properly it may never cause any real problems.
BTW, Carfax is not infallible. I bought a package of 5 when shopping for a car, and had 3 left over. I punched in my wife’s vehicle which had been repaired once and had been totaled out from a second accident, and neither was listed on the Carfax.
Q: What steps do I need to take?
I recently took my vehicle to Carmax to have it appraised and they let me know (to my surprise) that my car was originally from Canada and it did not have the sticker indicating that it has past through the import process accurately. After further investigation, it did have a title from Illinois but still no sticker. What do I need to do to get everything approved? Is there any legal action I can take against the dealership that sold me the car?
A: yes , they misrepresented the vehicle
Q: Should I buy this car anyway or be “buyer beware”?
i found a used/pre-owned Acura that i am interested in purchasing, sitting in the lot of a local dealership. It is 6 years old, has a little over 60K miles on its odometer, and looks to be in fair condition. the one thing that allured me to it at first was the price they put up on the dealer’s website. the current price is a REDUCED from the original which should have been closer to blue book value. however, the paper/sticker posted up on the side window indicates that it is being sold AS-IS with NO WARRANTY. feeling obligated to check its vehicle history report on carfax.com using the vehicle id # from the windshield, the report came out to check out fine for all the major checkpoints regarding its past, but what has me worried is the fact that it was owned by two separate owners. it was sold at 50K, bought again by another, then sold once again to be where it is now. the first owner used it in Illinois, but owner # 2 drove it to New York. curiously, it ended up back here in illinois.
A: Don’t worry about the as-is sticker, federal law requires us to put those stickers on the car….Even if a car has factory warranty left on it, we still put the as-is sticker in the window. Dealers can be fined heavily for not having that sticker in the window.
Carfax, don’t worry about that either, the car went to one place and then came back, not a big deal. Get the car checked out by a good mechanic and don’t worry about the carfax……Good Luck

A: Contact the DMV where the vehicle is registered.
Q: Do you consider this unacceptable customer service at a hair salon?
I visited Octagon Hair Salon in Gurnee, Illinois, to treat my mother for Mother’s Day last year and had quite a bad experience. My mother is all gray, but dyes her hair black. For a change, she wanted to lighten her hair color. We clearly explained to the hair stylist, whom I’d been visiting for years (and she, therefore, knew me well), what results we wanted. Upon going about her procedures, the stylist noticed she was not obtaining the results she expected. She’d wash my mother’s hair and say, “I don’t like it,” and would try another procedure. My mother and I were very patient as we wound up at the salon for hours – as a matter of fact – we were the last clients to leave. The stylist tried 2 – 3 other attemps until she finally reached her expected results. Upon checking out, I realized I was being charged for every and all the procedures that were done, including $75 for each additional hour the whole process took.
Now, ladies, who agrees with this policy? Don’t you believe I should’ve been warned that I would have to pay for all those procedures as well as the $75 for each additional hour? I never dye my hair light colors and was, therefore, not familiar with these procedures. But, even still, I think it’s just common sense and proper customer service for the stylist to have mentioned and/or warned about this. What if I did not have enough money on hand? I argued I trusted their professionalism and, therefore, that is why we went to their salon in the first place; otherwise, I would’ve done my mother’s hair myself at home. I honestly do not agree that the client should be responsible for costs incurred for things that are moreso the fault of the stylist. Had she picked the proper solution from the very beginning, she wouldn’t have had to do all the other procedures, and would’ve taken only an hour or so to complete. This almost reminds me of car dealerships: BUYER BEWARE. One never knows what is really wrong with your vehicle; the mechanics can tell you anything they want just to take advantage and charge more, and we, the naive consumers, take their word for everything.
Anyhow, the Octagon Salon, ’til this date, refuses to apologize for what they did and even refuses to accept any future appointments I make, despite the fact that I was still on their mailing list and they were still sending me salon notices. They’ve led themselves to believe that I am a trouble client, even after I’ve been visiting their salon years and nothing like this had ever happened before.
Is it just me, or would any woman not have agreed with this customer service? Kindly give me your opinions.
A: That is absolutely unacceptable. As a hairstylist I have been in the same situation with black hair color anything can happen, but if I intended to charge extra I would’ve definitely let them know. (Although I never charged for my own mistake). $75 is way to high for an extra hour. it could be a salon policy. If I were you I would contact either the cosmetology or barber boards for you area. maybe even the better business bureau?
Q: Its been three month with no title and no actual plates. Is this right? or illegal?
I called the dealership before my old temps expired and they give me another set of temporary plates and told me the title they held was null and are awaiting a new title. however seeing its been this long I am beginning to think they never had the title in the first place and just sold me the car. This is my first car but I do believe the dealership should of have the correct title in hand before selling me the car and I have already made 4 payments on the loan. If it helps at all I live in Illinois.
also I just had the vin checked on my car and its not registered in my name at all or the dealerships name
A: The above makes sense, however, if it is a used car, the dealership will not have the title, therefor may not issue permanant registration. It was probably a trade-in to them and the title is being held up by the person who financed it before you. The car will be registered to you (as far as a carfax report is concerned) once the perm. plates are issued to you. And yes, it sometimes does take a few months to get the title. The dealership probably should wait until they have the hard copy of the title before they sell it, but by law they don’t have to (ct law anyway). But in most cases, it’s not the dealerships fault, they are waiting on a bank or financing company somewhere along the line. Also, they issued you another temp. registration, so you will not be ticketed as long as your temp plate is not expired.

Q: How is cash for clunkers in the military spending bill a military item?
KSDK — Senator Dick Durbin (D-Illinois) was in Granite City Wednesday to talk about a new program he hopes will help the auto industry.
Durbin announced his support of the ‘Cash for Clunkers’ program at the Koetting Ford dealership.
The program will give car buyers a voucher towards the purchase of a new car with better gas mileage. Those vouchers could be as high as $4,500.
Jerry Koetting said the program is just the kind of boost his dealership needs. Sen. Durbin hopes to introduce the legislation in June.

A: It has nothing to do with military spending as do a bunch of other items in the bill.
Q: How is this for a start to a story?
Breaking out of class, it was spring break; all that waited was my chance to compensate. I had been way over burdened by my major; philosophy is not for ones looking for a lazy study.
I had forgotten to mention that I had received an innuendo; my friend of my mother, relatively a fifty or so old, had came up to my college town to drop off her focus. Yes, she drove one hell of an ugly lemon car, and it was being left up north while she picked up her Porche, these cars cannot be found everywhere in Illinois; there are many selective dealerships in my town. She, Angie, wanted to meet at a coffee shop, it felt natural to go. She was wearing a very tight and bright yellow shirt; she had a turn on physique when her breast job could be noticed.
