Q: When driving down a narrow road between cars, is there an accessory I can buy to ensure I don’t hit these cars?
I drive in Chicago on really narrow streets in between cars on my right and left side. It’s very hard for me to tell how close I am to the cars on my right and left sides. Does anyone sell an accessory like an extra mirror or some other device that would allow me to see how close the sides of my car are to the automobiles around me.

Thanks.

A: not that i know of :)

Q: So the Busch cars are faster than the Cup cars and the Trucks handle better?
I was just reading through some results of races in the Busch and Cup series this year and at the Daytona 500 the Busch cars averaged 7mph faster per lap which i assumed was because of the restrictor plate(or do busch cars have that too) and 1mph faster at Chicago land. Yet they were far slower at Daytona later in the year.

Mybe thats not the case with all the circuits?

Also, reading the interview with villeneuves engineer he said the trucks handle better than the COT. Surely the cup cars should be the fastest and best handling cars in NASCAR.

A: If you are looking at average race speed you have to remember that wrecks slow the field. A few extra cautions will drop the average speeds a lot.

The COT is slower than the old cars but its because its supposed to be harder to drive. Its got a lot less downforce and is less effected by having other cars around it. That made for a faster car but one that is hard to pass with because its so aero dependent. The Busch cars are more like the old Cup cars.

The COT has a similar front end to the Trucks. They have been using it for years in the Truck series and only a few races in Cup. The COT and the old car are very different and require very different setups and changes to make it run well. Practice makes perfect. Give it a year and a trip to every track and you will see the Cup guys will have figured out how to make the car race like they want.

Q: How far west can the Chicago Metra take you?
I’m going to college next year in downtown Chicago, without a car, so my parents will have to come pick me up every time I need to come home. We live in eastern Iowa, about 3 hours away from Chicago. Does anyone know how far west the Chicago Metra can take me so they don’t have to drive so far each time??

A: The western most stop on the Metra system would be Aurora. There is however, a great bus line that provides safe low cost service between Iowa and downtown Chicago daily called Burlington Trailways. That would be my suggestion due to the direct service. Their buses are really nice and they often play movies enroute. They serve several stops in Iowa and complete information can be found on the company website at; www.burlingtontrailways.com Good Luck.

Q: Where can I park for free over the weekend just outside of Chicago?
My family is visiting downtown chicago for a long weekend – but we are all driving in separate cars. Is there a place outside of the city where we can keep all but one of the cars parked for the weekend? We’re all coming from the east, so something near the Indiana / Illinois border would be ideal. Thanks for your help!
Parking at the hotel (downtown) is $30 per day and we’d like to minizmize those costs

A: How about a tollway oasis?

Q: Are there any apartments in north Chicago with free paking?
My husband and I are moving to chicago this summer for his job. We can’t find any apartments with free parking in the northern areas. We want to move to the gold coast or lincoln park neighborhoods but can afford $300 each (we both have cars) a month for parking. It’s RIDICULOUS!

A: I agree with gummy bear because I’ve been living in the city for a year and a half and I’ve gotten about 3 tickets since I’ve been here. All parking tickets. I’ve never even been pulled over but I’m constantly getting parking tickets (parked to close to the tow zone, didn’t know street cleaning was going on…etc). I believe the police in Chicago have an obsession with giving parking tickets because I never got a ticket before moving into the city. I lived in the south suburbs before and I’ll tell you, tickets in the city are about 2-3 times more expensive than tickets in the suburbs. Maybe you should go to the suburbs and just commute to the city. Because if you live in the city and don’t pay for a parking space, you’ll probably end up paying more in parking tickets!

Q: What rental car companies are on site at O’hare airport in Chicago?
I do not want to waste time taking a shuttle to the car place. Are there any companies that have cars on site at O’hare?

A: All the major ones, but you will always get the cheapest car rentals online http://1carrental.org

Q: What rental car companies are on site at O’hare airport in Chicago?
I do not want to waste time taking a shuttle to the car place. Are there any companies that have cars on site at O’hare?

A: Rental car agencies are located on the lower level near the baggage claim areas of Terminals 1, 2, and 3. Please look for signs and courtesy phones. From Terminal 5, rental car agencies are available by courtesy telephones located on the lower level. Many rental car agencies also offer courtesy buses to various automobile pick-up/drop-off areas. During the FACE construction project, please look for signs which may indicate a temporary relocation of the rental car areas or courtesy phones.

Your major ones are there: Avis, Budget, National, Hertz, Alamo, Dollar, Enterprise

Q: Where can I camp not to far from Chicago on short noitce?
My and some of my friends are looking to go camping on Friday August 3rd, and come home Sunday the 5th. I’m in the northwest suburbs of chicago and I want it to be under a 3 hours drive. there will be 8-10 people, taking two cars, and we will be camping in tents. I see online that most of the state parks in the area are full. We wish to go to a place that has showers and flush toilets, but not a watered down expirance like a koa. anyone have and ideas on where we could find a campsite on such short notice?

A: You said “Not KOA”, but check this one out anyhow: http://www.koa.com/where/il/13101/

Q: Heard of Chicago wanting to add a tax to ammunition purchases?
I heard in the past few days that Chicago’s city council has come up with the idea of adding a $0.50 tax to each cartidge sold in the city. Although their motivations might be to disuade criminals and gangsters from violence in the city, as well as raising revenue, I have to agree with some that have suggested that this is something other governmental agencies are going to pick up on and adopt too. Just another ploy for the anti-gun crowd to blame yet again another inanimate object for the irresponsible actions of others. Cars kill far more than guns every year, , no one should be allowed to own a car? Makes about as much sense.

After you get back from stocking up on ammo from your local sporting goods store, tell me of your thoughts.

A: move to Wisconsin, we might not be able to carry concealed yet, but I own over 14 thousand rounds of ammo…got it cheap too… Illinois is a commie state…

Q: What is going on in Chicago with the gas quality?
I travel to suburbs of Chicago three times a month and hear spark knock on 1 out of three cars there. Is it the 10% Ethanol or do they let oil companies put refinery by-products in IL.?

A: Yep, it’s the enthanol, not methanol, in the gas. This is what our leaders are trying to force down our throats under the guise of lessening our dependance on foreign oil. The fact is that alcohol in gas causes a decrease in MPG’s and causes you to have to use more foreign oil to make up the difference.

Q: What are some of the names of the rental car companies that rent cars by the hour in big cities.?
They are not the traditional rental car companies. They require a sign up fee, and then you can rent cars all year long and pay a small hourly rate. I need one in Chicago.

A: I’ve never heard of a company that rents cars by the hour

Q: Does any1 know how long it takes to receive the decision on a mail in chicago parking ticket dispute?
I found a tint ticket and license plate cover ticket on my car 1 day in Chicago. I mailed in my tickets with me disputing them through mail and havn’t heard back from then yet. Its gotta be getting close to a month since i mailed them in. Was just wondering if any1 knows how long this usually takes to hear a response on a mail in dispute in from the Chicago pd. Thanks

A: as a former Illinoisian I can tell you your dispute
has dropped into a black hole
watch for it on your credit

Q: Any suggestions for a reputable car repair shop in Chicago to do my brakes?
I need to find someone who can do my brakes (just pads and regrind my rotors), that’s not going to rip me off, in the Chicagoland area. The last guy I went to charged me $150 to fix a resonator cap on my muffler. Does that seem excessive? If not, I just assume go back to him. How much should I be looking to pay for average pads and rotor regrinding? Any help on this is appreciated.

A: Go to 2-3 different places and get an estimate and then decide.
